Objective

The student is able to plan, implement and evaluate the activities supporting the healthy growth and development of the school-age children and adolescents by basing her/his knowledge on the school health knowledge base. S/he is able to work in partnership with families and multi-professional groups. S/he is able to operate in an empowering manner and is able to encounter individuals and families with different cultural background. S/he is able to participate in the implementation of different forms of health promotion activities and has competence for working in a school community as a representative of his/her field.
The student is able to evaluate the factors promoting and burdening the health of the working population and s/he can help clients to promote their health and their ability to work. The student recognizes the main risk factors of work and their significance for health. The student is able to act as a professional in occupational health care in accordance with the practices of good occupational health care services. S/he is capable of a developing and good quality work approach.

Content

Professional practice carried out in school/student health care services.

Professional practice carried out in public health care, occupational health care service of a company and private occupational health care units.

Qualifications

The student has the theoretical and clinical competence in basics of nursing, health promotion, nursing related to national health concerns, families and communities, and is able to operate in different health care settings. Additionally, s/he masters the theoretical studies on student health care and occupational health care and has a good command of drug calculation related to the earlier studies.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass (S)
The student masters the knowledge base of school and occupational health care and the key contents of environmental health care. S/he masters well enough the planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion in the school and occupational health care. The student is able to work in partnership with individuals, families and different work communities. The student is able to encounter respectfully individuals and families with different cultural background. S/he works in empowering manner promoting the wellbeing and health of school aged children, adolescents as well as work aged individuals. The student is able to acquire information independently and with initiative, and assesses the information critically. S/he has good problem-solving skills for public health nursing, which s/he is able to draw on in new situations involving multidisciplinary problems in school and occupational health care. The student is able to improve her/his competence and takes the principles of sustainable development into account in her/his actions. S/he is competent in interactive communication in her/his work community.

Fail (S)
The student masters neither the basic knowledge base of school health nursing nor occupational health care. S/he does not master well enough the planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion in the school and occupational health care. The student is not able to work in partnership with individuals, families and different work communities. The student is not able to encounter respectfully individuals and families with different cultural background. S/he does not work in empowering manner in promotion of the wellbeing and health of school aged children, adolescents and work aged individuals. The student does not demonstrate an ability to acquire information independently and with initiative. S/he does not assess the information critically. S/he has very poor problem-solving skills for public health nursing, which s/he is not able to draw on in new situations involving multidisciplinary problems in school and occupational health care. The student does not demonstrate an ability to improve her/his competence and take the principles of sustainable development into account in her/his actions. S/he is has poor interactive and communication skills in her/his work community. The minimum requirements of the degree (EQF 6) are not met.
