Objective

The students understand how the home environment enables or restricts family well-being. The students understand how environment affects family members´ well-being through occupations. The students understand how health care professionals can enhance family well-being through environmental adaptations. The students know the impact of people’s own occupational choices for the environment. The students understand the cultural impact on the occupations, persons and occupational performance.

The student is familiar with the theoretical basis for the Housing Enabler (a method for the assessment of a physical environment’s accessibility) and the related research, and knows how to use the Housing Enabler assessment method.

Content

The concept of family and home in different cultures.
Meaningful activities in families in different cultures.
High technology adaptations in the Smart Home.
Introduction to Jamk´s projects which include high technology solutions for family well-being.

The theoretical basis for the Housing Enabler assessment method, practicing the use of the method, and analysing the results in the electronic software.

Qualifications

Basic understaning of clientcentered work in social- and healthcare.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass

The student understands the different aspects of community based interventions, family, family-centeredness and independent living. The student has mastered the tasks of the course in the area of home techonlogical solutions. He/she is familiar with the information, theories, research and principles relevant to the theme, and has an ability to apply them within the framework of the course.The student is able to work together with others in a multicultural group.The student demonstrates his/her competence in a good way in the tasks of the course.
