Objective

The student understands the diversity of cultural interpretations and notices new and alternative points of view to different cultures. She/he knows methods of multicultural work and is able to apply them in her/his work. She/he is able and keen to commit to critical and ethical discussion in multicultural work.

The meanings of gender and age in different cultures
Immigrant policy and different kind of immigrants
International relief work

Qualifications

The student recognizes different cultural values and her/his own cultural backgrounds. She/he understands multiculturalism and internationalism as a part of professional competencies demanded in social services.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent (5) and very good (4)
The student undertakes the task of deepening his/her understanding his/her own cultural starting points, and their influence in his/her own professional activities. Additionally, s/he avoids working under the influence of prejudices and stereotypes. S/he appreciates and respects diversity which is visible in his/her work on several levels. S/he is aware of the social injustice and the different levels of discrimination of minorities. In addition, in his/her profession, s/he is willing to change the discriminating practices. S/he acquires actively information about different cultures and recognizes the linkage between his education, professional field and different cultures. In his/her communication, s/he is able to take into account the differences between cultures and s/he is willing to develop new methods in multi-cultural work and apply the work methods of social field in a culturally sensitive manner. The student participates actively in discussions in all different teaching methods and encourages others to join in.
