Objective
The students have comprehensive basic knowledge on the individual needs and of supporting and guiding the participation and everyday coping of adults and aging people defined as disabled.
The students have basic knowledge of mental health support and challenging behavior for persons with disabilities. Students deepen their knowledge of practical guidance and also in medical treatment and nursing.
Content
Special needs adult education and guiding disabled adults in their everyday lives, production of supportive materials, supporting the transition stage and participation through different activities. In addition, familiarising with support needs and support of aging disabled people and also alternative and augmentative communication (AAC)methods. Medical care and nursing.
Qualifications
The students can apply and develop methods of special education in supporting the development and everyday coping of children and youth in need of special support in cooperation with other professionals. They have learnt to promote health and know central methods and clinical procedures of health care. They can apply methods of service guidance and family work in the thorough supporting of children and youth with special support needs and their families. They base their work on empowerment-orientation, ecoculturality and communality. They work recognising their own value basis and by following the ethical principles of their profession.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
excellent (5): the students participate in contact lessons and discussions in the virtual learning environment and complete the agreed assignments. In written assignments they show the ability to describe and justify the phenomena of the topic. The students follow the instructions of JUA for written assignments.
good (3-4): the students participate in contact lessons and discussions in the virtual learning environment and complete agreed assignments. In written assignments, they show ability to describe and justify the phenomena of the topic by exploiting Finnish sources. The students follow the instructions of JUA for written assignments.
satisfactory (1-2): the students partially participate in contact lessons and contribute little or none to discussions in the virtual learning environment. The students complete the agreed assignments. In written assignments, they describe the phenomena of the topic without justifying them and using only some source material. The students partially follow the instructions of JUA for written assignments.
