Objective

After successfully completing the course, the students meet the written and oral communication skills required in their studies in the field of business.

Content

Themes related to studies and working life with oral and written interactive exercises. The basic grammatical structures of English and their application to oral and written communication.

5 The students are able to communicate fluently and participate actively. They can apply the learning content of the course in versatile ways. They have no difficulties in understanding speech with a normal tempo and texts dealing with business and general topics although fine nuances and speech deviating significantly from standard language can be challenging. The students can produce almost errorless speech and writing. Their language use has no major defects.

4 The students are able to communicate fluently in situations concerning business studies and working life and they produce clear and fluent language. They have no difficulty in understanding speech with a normal tempo and texts dealing with business and general topics although expressions deviating from the standard use of the language cause problems to some extent. The students have a good command of the language and its use, but occasional problems may arise.

3 The students can manage well both oral and written situations concerning business studies and working life. They understand speech with a normal tempo and texts dealing with business and general topics, but unusual topics and language deviating from standard use cause difficulties. They can use the basic grammatical structures, and although their use of grammar is not error-free their errors do not hinder communication

2 The students are able to communicate understandably both orally and in writing in situations concerning business studies and working life although their language use is at times slow and incoherent. They understand clear speech and writing with business content. They have a reasonable command of the basic structures of the language although they also show uncertainty in its correct use.

1 The students are able to communicate understandably both in speech and writing in simple and routine situations. They can understand the central content of speech and writing concerning business studies and working life. They have a sufficient command of the basic structures of the language to be able to usually deliver their message.

Fail The students’ performance is not in accordance with the requirements of the learning tasks and /or does not reach level 1.
