Objective

The students are familiar with different ways of collecting and utilizing professional data as part of the learning process. They can also analyse their needs for information, as well as to acquire and use the information available in different ways. The course introduces different sources of information, data retrieval methods, field-specific databases, and the opportunities of the Internet for information search.

Content

Preparation for retrieval and acquisition of information; information retrieval, technology and location skills, field-specific sources of information, e.g. library databases, foreign and domestic article reference databases and full-text databases, special databases, the Internet, information assessment skills, e.g. criticism of sources, personal data acquisition process and its results.

Qualifications

Basic IT skills. Recommended at the initial stages of the thesis or other written assignment.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Active participation in contact classes and discussions, correctness and complexity of contents in assignments, summarizing assignment and description of the data retrieval process, assessed by the teacher
