Theory lectures, learning assignments individually and in small groups. Final exam.

Content

Safety automation design for process and machine control systems: functional safety, safety requirements according to IEC 61508, hazard identification and risk assessment, implementation principles for commercial safety logic, safety buses.
Prevention of mechanical hazards in machinery systems and machinery using protection techniques.
Safety design of machinery control systems
Safety in robotics
Cyber security in automation

Objective

You will learn the general principles of functional safety. Outline a risk assessment approach and be able to obtain design requirements from directives and standards based on them. You will be able to work as a member of a team designing safety automation.
